When life’s a drag put on your dancing shoes.
The Spice Girls, Shirley Bassey, Liza Minnelli and Judy Garland arrived at Croydon’s Ashcroft Theatre last week for the arrival of Raining Men, the hilarious comedy/musical by Chris Ponka.
Billed as a cross between The Full Monty and Bouncers this proves to be a fun filled evening of entertainment with a twist on the word drag.
The plot is simple - set in the cabaret bar of Jewells Nightclub it tells the story of Doug the cheesy quick-witted disc jockey, Phil the stereotypical, very macho doorman and Colin the barman. The trio get the chance to leave their glum everyday jobs behind for one night and form the Halloween entertainment as the club's resident drag trio.
Packed with musical tributes to all your favourite divas, this trio have you in stitches.
I really like Patrick Kearns (Doug) and his terrific stand-up comedy drag routine in the second half.
Kearns really does prove himself as a terrific entertainer as well as a very scary Scary Spice from the Spice Girls.
Michael Cross is hilarious as Colin the barman who in his previous life was a holiday camp entertainer – and camp he certainly was. And Andrew Ryan who proves himself as an excellent drag diva in them making with a great set of pins to match.
This is a fabulous two hours of entertainment that leaves you dancing in the aisles to all your favourites - Dancing Queen and YMCA and of course Raining Men.

Raining Men at the Kings Theatre - Review Published: 24th May 2012 22:46
I want you to think about this like cheese - caerphilly. For more jokes like this and an evening of fun go and see Raining Men at the Kings Theatre in Southsea which is running until this Saturday.
This was definitely a show of two halves. The first part told the story of how three friends working in a nightclub come to the decision to perform as a drag act for the club's halloween night. Phil the bouncer, or door security as he prefers to be called, is not having any of it so it's down to DJ doug and barman Colin to persuade him to find his inner diva. And find it he did - in the second half of the show he looked like a born drag queen,
In fact, the second part of the show was so much fun, it seemed to end really quickly with the audience wanting more.
Spice girls, Shirley Bassey, Liza Minelli an hilarious Edith Piaf and many more all featured in a raucous second half that had the audience on their feet and in stitches.
Doug (Patrick Kearn) entertained the audience with his outstanding comedy standup, bouncing off the audience with his quick wit and warm humour. Colin (Michael Cross) took charge as the group's chorographer with legs that any women would be proud of. Phil (Andrew Ryan) transformed into one of the best female impersonators that I have seen. Having seen the less lively, although still entertaining first half, the transformation was quite amazing.
This is a really fun show with plenty of adult humour
